Yashoda was the foster-mother of Shri Krishna, raising him alongside her husband Nanda in Gokul. Krishna was born to Devaki and Vasudeva, but Vasudeva brought the infant Krishna to Nanda and Yashoda to protect him from the tyrant King Kamsa. Yashoda is celebrated for her loving and devoted maternal relationship with Krishna, and their relationship is a central theme in many Hindu stories.
