The story of Lord Murugan's consorts, Valli and Deivanai, involves their previous births as daughters of Lord Vishnu, a boon from Murugan for marriage in their next birth, and their separate paths to marry him. Deivanai was the adopted daughter of Indra, whom Murugan married after defeating the demon Soorapadman. Valli was adopted by a tribal chief and grew up as a devoted hunter, and Murugan wooed her by appearing in disguise.
Deivanai (Devasenai)
In a previous birth, Deivanai was Amritavalli, one of Lord Vishnu's daughters.
She and her sister Sundaravalli prayed for a boon to marry Lord Murugan.
She was adopted by Indra, who named her Deivanai.
After Murugan defeated the demon Soorapadman, Indra, in gratitude, offered his daughter to Murugan.
In her previous birth, Valli was Sundaravalli, another daughter of Lord Vishnu who received the same boon to marry Murugan.
She was found as an abandoned baby and raised by a tribal chief, Nambirajan.
She grew up to be a brave huntress who was devoted to Murugan.
According to one legend, the sage Narada informed Murugan about Valli, who then went to Valli Malai.
Murugan, disguised as a hunter, first approached her in the fields. Later, to win her over, he appeared as an old man after she had prayed to him.
Another story describes how Murugan appeared in various disguises to test her devotion, and eventually, they were married after he revealed his true form to her father.CLARITY : Tanjore painting is taken with glass so its glaring, if you see directly it looks very beautiful than model picture!
